The 2013 Miss America pageant kicked off this week in Las Vegas, holding three days of preliminary competitions before the big night Saturday, Jan. 12. The contestants are divided into three groups to compete in the preliminaries.
The first day of competition, Miss Oklahoma Alicia Clifton’s tap dance routine to “Money Can’t Buy Me Love” won the talent portion and earned her a $2,000 scholarship, while Miss South Carolina Ali Rogers won the first round of the Lifestyle and Fitness category in a white Catalina swimsuit, earning a $1000 scholarship.
On the second day of prelims, Miss Maryland Joanna Guy (pictured above) won the talent portion with her performance of “I Dreamed a Dream” from “Les Miserables,” earning a $2,000 scholarship. Miss Illinois Megan Ervin won the Lifestyle and Fitness competition in her Cataline swimwear, earning the $1,000 scholarship.
Finally, on the third day of competition, Miss North Dakota Rosie Sauvageau won the talent portion and the $2,000 scholarship with a piano and vocal performance of “To Make You Feel My Love,” while Miss Washington Mandy Schendel won the $1,000 scholarship for the Lifestyle and Fitness portion in another white Catalina swimsuit.
All of these scores from the prelims will factor into the finals, which will be broadcast live Saturday, Jan. 12 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
