Before Alexandra Shipp stars as Aaliyah in Lifetime’s new movie about the late R&B singer, she plays the lead in VH1’s new sequel to 2002’s “Drumline,” “Drumline: A New Beat.”
The movie stars Shipp as Dani Bolton, a rich Brooklyn girl who — against her parents’ wishes — attends Atlanta A&T University so she can breathe new life into the school’s once-successful drumline and try to become its first female leader.
Letoya Luckett will play the Atlanta A&T dean, “Drumline” star Leonard Roberts will reprise his role as Sean Taylor, the new band director, and Jordan Calloway plays a cocky freshman who flirts with Dani.
Original “Drumline” star Nick Cannon will reprise his role as Devon Miles in a cameo appearance. He also produced the new film for VH1. It is scheduled to air on the network in fall 2014. Watch the trailer above.
