It was announced earlier in April that long-time ABC newswoman Barbara Walters is retiring from hosting “The View” on May 16, though she will remain on as executive producer. But in honor of her retirement from the air, the network is hosting a Barbara Walters week, complete with a look back at her illustrious career and a re-naming of the ABC News Headquarters building in New York City as the Barbara Walters Building.
Now ABC has announced that the day prior to Walters’ final “View” broadcast, the show will reunite all 11 co-hosts that it has had over the years to help celebrate Walters’ impact on journalism and television. The lineup includes Meredith Vieira, Star Jones, Joy Behar, Debbie Matenopoulos, Lisa Ling, Elisabeth Hasselbeck, Rosie O’Donnell, Whoopi Goldberg, Sherri Shepherd, Jenny McCarthy and, of course, Barbara Walters.
“Barbara Walters’ status as a trailblazer, a legend and an icon are undeniable,” says Paul Lee, president, ABC Entertainment. “By creating a talk show panel with multiple hosts she changed the daytime landscape with a concept that is now widely emulated. It’s a true testament to her legacy. We are grateful to her and recognize her enormous contribution to ABC Entertainment and the indelible mark she has left on television.”
This marks the first time all 11 co-hosts have been together and is noteworthy because a couple of the departures, most notably Star Jones and Rosie O’Donnell, were less than smooth transitions.
