After just one season, TLC is pulling the plug on reality show “All-American Muslim.”
The show chronicled the lives of five Lebanese American Muslim families living in Dearborn, Mich., one of the United States’ largest Muslim communities.
Several conservative groups denounced the show as “propaganda” and home retailer Lowe’s pulled advertising from the show after the Florida Family Association encouraged its members to e-mail the program’s advertisers. The show did garner the support of several celebrities, including Russell Simmons who bought out the show’s advertising in the wake of the Lowe’s boycott.
It isn’t clear if the controversy led to the cancellation or if it was just plain numbers. According to the Huffington Post, 1.7 million viewers watched the November 2011 premiere, but by the season-ending episode that number had dropped to 900,000.
