Though the fate of Amanda Bynes‘ parents’ quest for conservatorship has not been revealed, at least the troubled child star will continue to be given the help she so clearly needs. Doctors put in request to have Bynes’ 72-hour 5150 hold extended two weeks, and it’s being reported that a judge granted the extension.
E! News confirms that Bynes’ parents Rick and Lynn Bynes asked the 27-year-old’s doctors to recommend an extension so she could be properly diagnosed. It is believed that Bynes is suffering from a mental illness, potentially schizophrenia, and she has been having outbursts in the undisclosed hospital she is being held at.
Bynes was hospitalized by police on an involuntary psychiatric hold after she set a small fire in an elderly woman’s driveway. This is just the latest in a series of bizarre behavior the actress has been exhibiting in recent months.
Her parents filed for a conservatorship on Thursday, and the hearing will be held today (July 26). If a California judge grants the conservatorship, her parents will be given control over certain decision-making elements of her life in a situation similar to what happened with Britney Spears in 2008.
