Amanda Bynes has turned off a lot of people with her antics in recent months, but apparently she also has acquired a slew of supporters. A shrine for the troubled actress has been spotted in New York City’s East Village, replete with candles that have Bynes’ face Photoshopped over images of the Virgin Mary’s.
East Village blog EV Grieve noticed the shrine at the corner of East Ninth and Stuyvesant. Comparing Bynes to a religious figure is a bit of a strange message to send to the retired actress, who has been forthcoming about her personal problems like her eating disorder and body image issues recently. Drawing a comparison between her and the Virgin Mary probably isn’t the best statement to make.
During a recent interview with In Touch, Bynes defended herself against those who call her insane.
“Every time I’ve heard it, it came from an ugly person’s mouth, so I don’t care,” she says. “The only ones lying about me having a mental illness are people I don’t talk to.”
