At the start of its Friday (July 26) presentation at the Summer 2013 TCA Press Day, AMC broke some big news. The prestige cabler has picked up two new shows to series, “Halt & Catch Fire” and “Turn.”
“Halt & Catch Fire,” set in the early 1980s, will focus on the PC boom through the eyes of a visionary, Joe (Lee Pace, “Pushing Daisies”); an engineer, Gordon (Scoot McNairy, “Argo”); and a prodigy, Cameron (Mackenzie Davis). With Jonathan Lisco as showrunner, the series will watch as the characters innovations directly confront the corporate behemoths of the time.
“Turn,” set in the summer of 1778, centers on New York farmer Abe Woodhull as he bands together with a group of childhood friends to become The Culper Ring, a highly unlikely group of spies who helped turn the tide in America’s fight for its independence. Based on Alexander Rose’s book “Washington Spies,” the series will star Jamie Bell (“Billy Elliott”) and Burn Gorman (“Pacific Rim”).
As network head Charlie Collier said, this marks the first time AMC has picked up two scripted series in the same cycle.
