“American Horror Story: Coven’s” witchy premiere conjured up the most-watched broadcast for the “AHS” franchise since its inception two years ago, earning 5.54 million total viewers and 3.87 million viewers in the adults 18-49 demo.
This is a gain of 44 percent in total viewers and 39 percent in the demo over the “American Horror Story: Asylum” premiere from October 2012. When the final Live+7 day data becomes available, the “Coven” premiere could be the most-watched program in FX history, as so far the premiere and its encore runs scored nearly 7.8 million viewers total and 5.4 million in adults 18-49.
The ratings also beat NBC’s “Ironside” episode and were nearly tied with ABC’s “Nashville,” but the 3.5 rating in adults 18-34 topped all broadcast competition in primetime on Wednesday night.
“American Horror Story: Coven” airs Wednesday nights at 10 p.m. ET/PT on FX.
