Playing piano is a pretty valuable skill when it comes to “American Idol’s” Billy Joel theme week, so it makes sense that Colton Dixon is feeling pretty confident going into the Top 10 performance show.
“I am so excited about this week,” he tells Zap2it. “I’ve really gotten to be in my element. Billy Joel is the piano guy, and that’s my comfort zone. So any song that I could’ve chosen
would showcase that.”
But the song he did pick could turn him from solid competitor to frontrunner — provided he doesn’t screw it up.
“It’s going to be a big week for me. If I do the song right, it could be
my moment while I’ve been on ‘American Idol.’ So I’m really, really
excited about it.”
If you’ll recall, last week the judges said they felt there might be three frontrunners in the competition — perhaps Dixon is the mysterious third finalist they were referring to. (Either way, we’re thinking this guy has a pretty good chance at the prime last performance slot in the show.)
Speaking of last week, Dixon is still feeling pretty confident in his song choice even though Steven Tyler wasn’t so into his cover of White Lion’s “Broken Heart.”
“I think I chose the right song last week. Even though Steven Tyler hated it, I still haven’t gotten a chance to talk to him about that — I’m excited to, because I want to hear more — I think I did the song well. As good as I could have. I even had the lead singer of White Lion comment on it, which was amazing. He loved it. That just tells me that okay, I did all I could last week and America voted and here I am.”
