Jena Irene wants more than a duet partner from her “American Idol” finale performance with Paramore — she also wouldn’t mind becoming best friends with lead singer Hayley Williams.
“I hope I get her number so we can text all the time,” Jena jokes backstage after the final “Idol” performance show. “I’m a fangirl,” she admits to reporters. “She’s an awesome person, she’s an awesome performer. I’ve loved that band since I was 12 years old, so there’s going to be a lot of things that I would like to talk to her about, but so little time!”
Jena is excited for her performance with Paramore — “she’s freaking out,” says fellow Top 2 finisher Caleb Johnson — but she’s also pumped to sing with Demi Lovato and the rest of the Top 13 girls.
“Demi is extremely hardworking. She came right into the rehearsal, said hi to everyone and learned all of our names, which was really nice, and then got right down to work,” Jena says. “You can tell that she wants to put on the best performance she possibly can. It’s awesome to see, since she’s so professional and so successful, that she still wants to put on the best performance wherever it may be.”
Regardless, Jena just wants to have fun. “There’s no pressure,” she says. “Tomorrow is going to be an awesome show just because there’s no possible thing we can do to make the votes go in our favor so we’re just going to have fun.”
