Although Ryan Seacrest had started the “Idol” broadcast with a general message from the show to the city of Boston, Angie repeated the sentiment right before her first performance, dedicating the song to the people of her hometown. She then launched into a passionate rendition of “I’ll Stand By You” by The Pretenders, accompanying herself on piano.
What was she thinking about at the time? “I have lots of family, lots of friends who ran it and were there,” Angie said. “I wish … It’s so weird but I wish I could have been there. That’s weird saying that, but I just wish I could have been there with my friends and family and just been with them.”
Fortunately, Angie’s family and friends were all okay after the attack, but the singer still had strong feelings about the victims. “Everyone that I know is alright but my heart goes out to all the families who are hurting over their loss or those who are injured,” she said. “I just knew when that happened that I wanted to dedicate this song to them.”
As it turns out, the appropriateness of Angie’s song choice was a coincidence, but it was a happy one that probably helped bring out the passion. “The words, the lyrics just went so perfectly with it so I was just so glad I was able to do that,” Angie said.
The fate of Angie Miller and the rest of the Top 5 will be decided on Thursday, April 18 at 8pm on FOX.
