“American Idol” frontrunner Phillip Phillips is back in the studio after being rushed to the hospital earlier today (March 8) for an unknown ailment.
Sources close to production tell Zap2it that Phillips did go to the hospital earlier, but is now back in the studio and will participate in tonight’s results show.
TMZ reports that the singer sought medical treatment after experiencing intense abdominal pain, and that friends think gallstones are to blame. There’s no official word on what Phillips was suffering from.
Phillips is one of Season 11’s most buzzed-about contestants, and closed out last night’s Top 13 performance show with a scorching, guitar-driven rendition of Stevie Wonder‘s “Superstition.” He seemed in good spirits both times Zap2it spoke with him this week, although he mentioned both times that the grueling production schedule left him quite tired. (A feeling shared by his fellow “Idol” contestants.)
When asked how he’s been dealing with being thrust into the spotlight, Phillips tells Zap2it, “It was a big thrust. A weird, fast thrust. I’m so tired. But it’s been fun. We’ve had to make fun out of the thrust.”
FOX had no comment on the matter.
