We’ve known for a little while, but now it’s official — FOX has announced the lineup for the “American Idol” Season 13 judges panel as returning judge Keith Urban, returning judge Jennifer Lopez and Harry Connick Jr., who we think should’ve been judging “Idol” as soon as Simon Cowell left.
Randy Jackson is also back — not as a judge but as the in-house mentor, instead of former in-house mentor Jimmy Iovine. And of course, Ryan Seacrest will continue his job as host.
Connick Jr. says in a statement, “I have always been a huge fan of ‘American Idol’ and really enjoyed my time as a mentor on the show and I am honored that they’ve asked me to be a judge this season. As an entertainer, I am truly excited to bring my perspective to ‘American Idol,’ and to help emerging performers find their way.”
Urban adds, “I think this season of ‘Idol’ is gonna be a blast. New team, new energy and a whole new field of artists to be discovered and given a chance!”
We have to say — this is a great panel. J-Lo was a highlight during her tenure as a judge (as long as she’s not too much of a softie) and Urban was more or less the only good about last year’s judges’ panel, plus Connick has been terrific as a mentor.
What do you think, “Idol” fans?
