During the FOX executive session at TCA press tour 2013, Kevin Reilly, the chairman of entertainment for FOX, had a few teases about “American Idol” — though he can’t confirm much yet.
“I can’t talk too much about [the upcoming season] because we have to continue our yearly tradition of me not being able to say anything about the show,” laughs Reilly. “I will confirm one thing is that [Keith Urban] is going to return to the show.”
But he continues, “Most of what you’re reporting or you read is true. … [Jennifer Lopez] has been a close part of the show all along. There have been discussions there. There is no deal with her or with anybody else.”
“We have new producers, as you know. They’ve come in with some dynamic ideas to tinker with the format, particularly in those middle rounds between the auditions and the live shows,” says Reilly.
“We want some judges in that are good at the job, that people like, that refocus the attention on the contestants. … It really became too much about the judges. The show’s always been about the contestants. … Let’s really focus on some great stories with the kids,” says Reilly.
What do you think, “Idol” fans? Glad to see Keith Urban back? Do you hope Jennifer Lopez returns?
