“American Idol” might’ve just crowned rocker Caleb Johnson Season 13’s winner, but Harry Connick Jr. and Keith Urban are already looking forward to finding the new generation of talent on Season 14 of the FOX reality singing competition.
“To imagine the next ‘American Idol’ winner is walking around somewhere — that is so exciting. I can’t wait; I am so fired up,” Connick tells Zap2it on the red carpet at the “Idol” Season 13 finale. “I can’t wait! That is the most exciting thing. We were talking about that last night.”
It’s not exactly official that Connick, Urban and Jennifer Lopez are all returning for Season 14, but it seems like it’s almost a done deal. They’re visiting each judge’s hometown during the auditions, so that’s a good sign.
“I’m looking forward to it a lot,” Urban says of finding the next generation of talent. “I hope all of us stay in tact for next season because I really had a great time and I feel like we’ve got a good groove going so I hope we get to keep it going.”
Considering the two Season 13 finalists — Johnson and 17-year-old Jena Irene — were so closely matched that the judges couldn’t agree on who would win, it seems like there’s a lot of talent out there to mine.
“I seriously could flip a coin,” Urban said of both singers before the show. “I literally walked away from [the performance show] going flip a coin, man. They both knocked it out of the park. I really genuinely don’t know who is gonna win.”
