Smith, who also starred in several of the “Saw” movies, will play the ex-wife of Sheen’s character, an anger-management therapist, Deadline reports. The characters have a teenage daughter together and have a fairly amicable relationship.
The show is also nearing a decision on its other major female role, Charlie’s own therapist. Selma Blair and Elaine Hendrix (“Joan of Arcadia”) have read for the network, Deadline says, and a few other actresses may also be in the mix.
Smith played the sweet but somewhat dim Linda on “Becker,” which ran for six seasons on CBS. More recently she guest-starred on “Law & Order: LA” and “The Secret Life of the American Teenager,” and she co-stars in the Billy Bob Thornton-directed “Jayne Mansfield’s Car,” which is making the film-festival rounds this year.
“Anger Management” is set to premiere in June on FX with a 10-episode run. If it hits ratings goals, FX will then pick up 90 more episodes.
