Curry has formally asked the network to be released from her deal, Radar reports. NBC, however, doesn’t seem all that interested in letting her go.
Former NBC chief Jeff Zucker, recently named the head of CNN, has reportedly been courting Curry to host a prime-time show on the news channel. But it can’t happen if Curry isn’t let out of her contract — if she leaves before the deal is up, a non-compete clause would prevent her from working for another news outlet for two years.
Curry was pushed out of “Today” in June, a move that viewers apparently weren’t too happy to see. Ratings for the morning show have slid since then, and “Today” has ceded the No. 1 spot in the morning-show race to ABC’s “Good Morning America.”
