Roberts has been on sick leave while she gets treatment for myelodysplastic syndrome, a disease in which one’s bone marrow doesn’t make enough healthy blood cells. The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Romney will join the list of previously announced co-hosts, which includes Oprah Winfrey, the cast of “Modern Family” and ABC’s Diane Sawyer, Katie Couric and Barbara Walters. Stephen Colbert and Jessica Simpson have already been on the show.
“Good Morning America” producers have been working to book Romney since last summer. Now that they have her on the calendar, their next quest is to get First Lady Michelle Obama on board as well. Apparently Obama is game, but it’s just a matter of finding a day that she can fit the morning news show into her schedule.
The wife of Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney will host alongside George Stephanopoulos starting in the show’s second hour at 8 a.m. Due to increased security measures, Romney won’t stand in the crowds outside of “Good Morning America’s” Time Square Studio during the broadcast.
