An unnamed actress is suing the popular website IMDb and their parent company Amazon.com for revealing her actual age. In the complaint, a woman filing under the name Jane Doe says, “in the entertainment industry, youth is king” and she risks losing job opportunities if her true age is revealed.
The filing says that the woman is of Asian descent and she has maintained an IMDbpro account since 2008. However in order to subscribe to IMDbpro, she was required to proved detailed personal information including her legal name, address, and zip code associated with her credit card.
The suit then says, “Shortly after subscribing to IMDbPro, Plaintiff noticed that her legal date of birth had been added to her public acting profile in the Internet Movie Database, revealing to the public that Plaintiff is many years older than she looks.”
It continues, “If one is perceived to be “over-the-hill,” i.e., approaching 40, it is nearly impossible for an up-and-coming actress, such as the Plaintiff, to get work as she is thought to have less of an “upside.”
She is suing for breach of contract, fraud and violation of privacy. She’s also looking for damages of at least $1 million.
So who might it be?
