Ansel Elgort and Shailene Woodley are playing brother and sister in the upcoming movie “Divergent,” but they’ll be switching gears to romantic leads in the hotly anticipated adaptation of “The Fault In Our Stars.” Elgort was promoting “Divergent” at San Diego Comic-Con, but was still happy to talk about “Fault” during an interview with Zap2it.
“I was excited to do it just because I like working with Shae so much,” he says. “We got some stuff to do in this movie but not that much, and I didn’t really want to wait for the second and third book of ‘Divergent’ so I figured that if we just did it in ‘The Fault In Our Stars’ we can get some great acting together.”
Elgort adds, “It’s perfect. It’s ‘Divergent 1.5.'”
Those aren’t the only two movies on Elgort’s pipeline though. He also has “Carrie,” which he started promoting during our interview because, he joked, the team on that film doesn’t want him talking about it. It was then that Elgort started veering into some major spoilery territory, so be warned everyone who hasn’t read “The Fault In Our Stars” or “Carrie.”
“Spoiler: I get hit in the head with a bucket and die in that film,” Elgort says of “Carrie.” “By the way, I die in everything. I die in ‘Carrie,’ in ‘Fault In Our Stars’ — Gus dies — and in ‘Divergent’ I bet you I’m going to die in the third book too, except I don’t die on the first page.”
How does he know? “I asked [author] Veronica [Roth], I said, ‘Do I die on the first page of the book?’ And she said, ‘No, you live a little bit.’ So does that mean I die, or what does it mean?”
We’ll all have to wait until the third book in the “Divergent” trilogy, “Allegiant,” comes out on Oct. 22. “Divergent” hits theaters on March 21, 2014.
