With Kristen Wiig, Andy Samberg and Abby Elliott all leaving “Saturday Night Live” before the upcoming Season 38, there are a few open spots on the roster. According to new reports, comedians Aidy Bryant and Tim Robinson are ready to join the team as the newest “SNL” cast members.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, Bryant and Robinson are in final contract negotiations to appear on the NBC late-night sketch comedy show. Both hail from Chicago’s famed Second City comedy troupe, and have performed regularly around the Windy City. Bryant comes from Phoenix, Ariz. and has a theater degree from Columbia. Robinson hails from Detroit and will appear on CBS’s midseason comedy “Friend Me.”
Obviously it’s hard to tell how the newbies will fit into the grand scheme of the show until we see them in action, so there are no complaints on that front. But as with every “SNL” new hire, it’s hard to overlook the diversity issue.
“SNL” premieres Sept. 15 with first-time host Seth MacFarlane and musical guest Frank Ocean.
