In a new interview set to air Monday (March 14) on “Access Hollywood,” Aretha Franklin denies that she had gastric bypass surgery. Though the Queen of Soul does acknowledge that her recent 85 pound weight loss is the result of surgery she had in December, she won’t go on the record about exactly what procedure she had done.
When she was hospitalized in late 2010, Franklin was rumored to be undergoing treatment for pancreatic cancer. She later denied a cancer diagnosis. Whatever it was, though, the conditions were serious enough for all of Franklin’s upcoming tour dates to be canceled and doctors to order eight weeks of bed rest following the unknown procedure.
