With San Diego Comic-Con a week away, the first official look at “Avengers: Age of Ultron” has been revealed. On the cover of the special Comic-Con issue of EW stand Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Chris Evans as Captain America and Ultron, the robot villain they will have to face in the movie.
Ultron, who is played by James Spader through the use of motion-capture, is actually put into use by Downey’s Tony Stark, as a way to allow him retire from being Iron Man. The self-teaching artificial intelligence controls the Iron Legion and quickly things spiral out of control.
“Ultron sees the big picture and he goes, ‘Okay, we need radical change, which will be violent and appalling, in order to make everything better’,” director Joss Whedon explains. “He’s on a mission. He wants to save us.” Of course, the thing he wants to save humanity from is human beings.
That’s when Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Hawkeye, Black Widow and The Incredible Hulk have to get back in the game to stop him. The question is whether they’ll be able to before humanity is destroyed.
“Avengers: Age of Ultron” is in theaters May 1, 2015.
