Ron Moore, executive producer for “Outlander,” the new Starz drama coming this summer based on the epic novels by Diana Gabaldon, revealed a fun bit of news at the fan event in Los Angeles Saturday (Jan. 11), when he was asked by a fan if they know who will be scoring the show.
“Actually, I’m pleased to announce that Bear McCreary will be doing the music,” says Moore, to raucous applause by the audience.
“Bear, as some of you know, I worked with him on [‘Battlestar Galactica’] and he’s been doing ‘Black Sails’ and ‘Da Vinci’s Demons’ and ‘The Walking Dead,’” Moore continues. “It turns out by happenstance that Bear is a Jacobite. … so he’s the perfect guy to do this.”
The Jacobite movement features heavily in the first couple “Outlander” books, which are set during the time period when a political movement (the Jacobites) were fighting to restore King James II of the House of Stuart to the thrones of England, Scotland and Ireland. The particular focus of “Outlander” is the Jacobite rising of the mid-1740s.
“Outlander” premieres in summer 2014 on Starz.
