Betty White, known for her wry wit and naughty turn of phrase, will be using her skills for the written word.
America’s favorite senior citizen (sorry Cloris Leachman!) has signed a two-book deal with G.P. Putnam’s Sons, the publisher announced Wednesday (Aug. 18) after winning the publishing rights in a “highly competitive auction.”
“Much as I love what I do for a living in show business, I love writing even more — so I am thrilled to be working on not only one new book but two of them,” says White.
]]>“Saturday Night Live” guest stint. She also promises to share her thoughts on getting older, being a celebrity, TV, and even love and sex. Oh boy, Betty White sex talk. We can’t wait for Spring 2011.
The second book will be “The Zoo and I: Betty and Her Friends,” which will follow the comedian’s work with animals through stories and pictures. The book is due out in 2012. White is known for her support of animal welfare and is on the board of the Los Angeles Zoo.
In case you don’t want to flip through a Betty book but want all the benefits of her wit and wisdom, G.P. Putnam’s Sons has also acquired the audio and eBook rights in addition to the hardcover and paperback rights.
The “Hot in Cleveland” star already has five books under her Depends-hoisting belt: “Betty White’s Pet Love”; “Betty White in Person: The Leading Lady”; “Dinah’s Story,” co-authored with Tom Sullivan; “Here We Go Again: My Life in Television”; and “Together,” co-authored with Tom Sullivan.
Although we’re big fans of Betty’s we’ve never read anything by her. We wonder if the audio book will have her voice or another actress’ “playing” Betty. That would be odd, but intriguing. Nevertheless, we’re curious about what sage senior words she has for us.
