Aaryn Gries, the 23-year-old student who was at the center of the “Big Brother 15” controversy this summer surrounding the racist, homophobic, misogynistic and sexually-inappropriate comments made in the house this summer, has admitted that she does say racist things sometimes — but she doesn’t mean them that way, she’s just joking.
“No one had [previously] expressed that I was taken that way,” Gries tells TMZ. “I am not a racist. Sometimes you can say mindless things that will haunt you.”
She adds that she wishes someone had warned her before “Big Brother” that making these “jokes” on the live feeds would cause her to be painted as a racist.
Gries also says, “Blaming Texas was the biggest mistake I made … I was in defense mode,” referring to her exit interview with Julie Chen when she said, “I honestly feel horrible. I feel like in Texas we say things that are sometimes… we joke and we don’t mean it.
