Meet “Big Brother 16” contestant Frankie Grande. He’s the older brother of pop superstar Ariana Grande, but don’t let that fool you — he’s got his own (giant) personality and he’s ready to play “Big Brother.” In fact, he initially auditioned for “Survivor,” as he tells Zap2it in the above video.
“I’ve actually always been a fan of ‘Survivor,'” says Grande. “I auditioned to be on ‘Survivor’ and I didn’t get anything and then when I went to a ‘Survivor’ finale party and everybody was like, ‘Why aren’t you on ‘Big Brother?” and I was like, ‘That is such an interesting idea, I don’t know why I’m not on ‘Big Brother.’
“That’s when I started watching ‘Big Brother,’ I become obsessed, I watched every season and then I applied and now here I am.”
As for his strategy, Grande says that all depends on whether or not he’s recognized, not only as maybe being Ariana’s brother but also because he’s a YouTube star in his own right.
“I have a dual strategy. First is if I’m recognized, I need to go for the win immediately,” says Grande. “Go for the jugular, get in power and then do damage control once I’m in power … If I’m not recognized, I’m just gonna chill and have a nice time in the house for a good four or five weeks, and then I’m just gonna beast it and everybody’s gonna be like, ‘Where did that come from?!'”
Part of this strategy either way, however, is to align himself with a strong female player.
“I’m hoping I find a strong woman that wants to be manipulatively ruthless,” Grande tells Zap2it. “I want a woman who wants to use all the men in the house and then come to the end with me having done so. It’s probably because my mother is my idol in this world, she runs three companies and she’s a strong, ruthless woman … in my mind, that’s like the best thing you can do.
“I feel like a lot of times the women on this show are like, ‘But he’s my boyfriend now!’ and I’m just like, ‘Ugh, I wanna punch you in the face! Shut up, he’s going to evict you!’ I’m really hoping there’s a woman in the house who wants to have fun, but knows that she’s ultimately in it to win it and she can take everyone down, because that’s how I want to play the game.”
“I’m not afraid to get dirty at all. I’m sure there will be times when I’m having emotional conflicts, but no, I’m ready to get my hands bloody.” he adds.
Other tidbits from Frankie:
On who he doesn’t want in the house: “Someone who is offended by me [as a gay man], my existence offends them morally, I don’t want in the house. … People that are like, ‘You’re gonna burn in hell,’ that kind of mentality will be very hurtful and for difficult for me to be around every day.”
On possible showmances: “I would like for one of the straight jocks to be on the down-low and for him to come to me at some point and be able to utilize that attraction to my advantage in the game. That would just be great for me. [laughs] But I don’t foresee myself leaving this game with a husband at all.”
On what he won’t do to win: “Something that I have a lot of reservations about doing that I probably will have to do is swear on my family. I hate it, but you know it’s coming. … It’s so dumb and I don’t want to have to do it in national TV, but mom, if you’re reading this, I love you regardless of what I say in the house.”
Favorite past players: “I’m obsessed with the big personality girls. Britney, love her to death. Janelle, love her to death. Rachel, I love-hate her to death, but girl is great TV. I admire Dan so much, what a wonderful player. I love Ian for taking Dan down. I liked Ragan.”
On being Ariana Grande’s brother: “I’m going to try to keep my sister out of the game. But if somebody knows that I’m her brother, I’m not going to lie about it. I don’t think there’s any benefit in that. But I just have to say that she doesn’t give me a check, I don’t get her money. We are completely separate people.”
“Big Brother 16” has a two-part premiere on Wednesday, June 25 at 8 p.m. ET/PT and Thursday, June 26 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on CBS.
