But what does Bill have to say about all of this? We talked to him and his professional partner, Tyne Stecklein, right after the week 2 performances and elimination.
Obviously, it was impossible not to ask about Bill’s crazy Beethoven wig worn during the couple’s paso doble. “The wig … That was fun!” Nye explained. “We did it in rehearsal, and everybody’s like, ‘Should we use it?’ But everybody thought it was great, so I wore it.”
There was more to the performance than just some crazy hair though — a point Bill Nye was insistent on making. “We also had some paso doble in there people! And recognizable steps from the actual book and rules,” Bill joked.
But Bill wasn’t crediting his own performances with being enough to keep him on the show. He was very happy to share that with the fans. “I wasn’t shocked, but I’m very pleased,” he answered when asked about the fan support. “It could have gone either way, but I’m very, very pleased to be here. And Tyne is the best! So if nothing else, I want to be her for her. She works so hard!”
Happy as he was, Bill always knew he could count on the Internet world to help him out. “I wasn’t shocked, but I was surprised. Because I have a good following on social media,” Nye pointed out. “People who watched the show … And if you’re of a certain age, that’s your thing.”
But don’t worry if you don’t like too many “DWTS” tweets: Bill Nye promises to limit himself to no more than two “vote for me posts” on show days!
Still, Bill Nye has only survived one elimination on “Dancing with the Stars.” How does he plan to make it through another? “We’re working on the pigeon-toedness and the back posture. Every day, we work on it,” Tyne said of her partner.
Bill jumped in at this point to note that he even had special clothing to help fix some of his problems. “I’m wearing this piece of webbing to keep my shoulders back,” the performer said, being totally serious. “I’ve never worn a corset, but yes, it would be like that. It hurts if your posture is bad.”
Hopefully this will help. Either way, “Dancing with the Stars” airs Mondays at 8 p.m. on ABC.
