ABC has shut the lid on “Black Box”: The modestly rated drama is done after one season.
The show, which starred Kelly Reilly as a bipolar neurologist, premiered April 24 and ran into the summer. It premiered to so-so numbers, scoring a 1.5 same-day rating in adults 18-49 for its debut (about half of what the show it replaced, “Scandal,” typically drew in the same timeslot) and fell further with its summer episodes. The July 24 finale posted a 0.7 same-day rating in the 18-49 demographic.
“Black Box” joins an already long list of ABC shows that didn’t make it past their first season in 2013-14. Only three of the network’s 14 new series last season (“Agents of SHIELD,” “The Goldbergs” and “Resurrection”) survived to see a second year.
