The early through-line of “Boardwalk Empire’s” second season has been Nucky’s vulnerability: Others are trying to loosen his grip on Atlantic City, and he’s pushing back just as hard to keep his power.
Based on these two clips from Sunday’s (Oct. 9) episode, ‘A Dangerous Maid,’ that’s not changing anytime soon.
In the first, Nucky (Steve Buscemi) doesn’t take very kindly to an overture from Al Capone (Stephen Graham) — not because of anything Capone does, but because it doesn’t come from his bosses. In the second, IRA advance man Owen Sleater (Charlie Cox) offers his services to Nucky. The implication in each case is that Nucky is weakened, not worthy of a visit from the top guys and in need of the protection Owen proposes.
That’s not a very pleasant place to be in, and we’re very curious to see how Nucky tries to regain the upper hand.
