planet of the apes Box Office: 'The Help,' 'Final Destination 5' can't beat 'The Rise of the Planet of the Apes'The apes are taking over! Positive word-of-mouth and strong reviews have kept James Franco’s “The Rise of the Planet of the Apes” at the top of the Box Office for another week with an estimated $27.5 million over the weekend, leaving “The Help” and “Final Destination 5” at #2 and #3 on their opening weekend.

“The Help” was the only new movie with a strong performance this weekend, making $25.5 as Emma Stone continues to charm audiences. Despite the 3D novelty of “Final Destination 5,” which means tickets cost more, the scare fare only made an estimated $18.4 over the weekend.

“The Smurfs” came in #4, above new R-rated comedy “30 Minutes or Less,” which underperformed with a $13 million box office haul. Meanwhile, “Glee: The 3D Concert Movie,” the other big name opener this weekend, couldn’t crack the Top 10, coming in #11 with only $5.7 million in ticket sales.
