Celebrities get regular flak for the occasionally oddball names they give their kids — see Moxie Crimefighter Jillette, Kal-El Cage et al.
A custody case currently making news in New Jersey has them all beat, however. Parents Heath and Deborah Campbell are fighting to get their three kids out of state custody — including their 5-year-old son, Adolf Hitler Campbell.
The Campbells say their children — they also have a 4-year-old daughter named JoyceLynn Aryan Nation and a 3-year-old girl named Honszlynn Hinler Jeannie Campbell. The New Jersey Division of Youth and Family Services removed the children from the Campbell home in early 2009 after determining they were in “imminent danger.”
The parents, however, tell NBC 10 in Philadelphia that the kids were taken solely because of their Nazi-inspired names, and not because there was any abuse at home. An appeals court ruled last year that there was evidence of abuse because of domestic violence in the home. A ruling on whether the kids can come home is expected in December.
The case first came to light when a local grocery store refused to put “Adolf Hitler” on a birthday cake for the boy in 2009. The Campbell children were taken into state care soon after that. Heath and Deborah Campbell say they’re not neo-Nazis despite the kids’ names and the swastika tattoo and Hitler-esque mustache Heath Campbell has, which you can see in the video above.
