There has never been a year for female role models better than 2012.
With the “Hunger Games” trailer debuting Nov. 14 and now Pixar releasing the full-length trailer for “Brave,” 2012 is shaping up to be the year of the tough female heroine — and we couldn’t be happier.
The only footage we’d seen of “Brave” until this point had been a short, narrated teaser with a quick glimpse at our curly-haired redheaded heroine (a beautiful and exciting teaser, sure, but way too short). With a full two minutes now revealed, we can officially say that this movie looks awesome.
It’s your typical underdog becomes fierce warrior story, but instead of a geeky guy its tomboy Merida (voiced by Kelly Macdonald) in the lead. Merida, an archer and the daughter of King Fergus (Billy Connolly) and Queen Elinor (Emma Thompson), causes trouble when she defies an old tradition and then must make things right. The movie also features the voices of Kevin McKidd, Craig Ferguson, Julie Walters and Robbie Coltrane.
Being a Pixar film, it’s obviously beautifully animated, but we’re most excited that this leading lady is no damsel in distress. Plus, there’s the added delight of all the Scottish accents.
“Brave” opens June 22, 2012.
