“Breaking Amish” is turning into a franchise for TLC with the debut of spinoff series “Breaking Amish: Brave New World” set for May 12.
“New World” will follow the cast of “Breaking Amish” Season 1 — Abe, Rebecca, Kate, Sabrina and Jeremiah — as they attempt to start new lives in Florida.
The network is already working on Season 2 of “Amish” which will follow a new cast of Amish and Mennonite men and women “eager to live a life beyond the limited upbringings they’ve known.” Production is expected to begin in the spring ahead of a to-be-determined premiere date later this summer.
Keeping the original cast going, while adding a new crew to follow sounds an awful lot like MTV’s “Teen Mom” formula to us, and it makes sense TLC would try to extend this brand. Season 1 of “Amish” was a breakout hit for the network but caused controversy when evidence emerged that some of the show’s content may have been staged. (You mean reality TV isn’t completely real? Say it ain’t so!)
