It has arrived. “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 2” hit theaters at 10 p.m. Thursday (Nov. 15), which means fans have witnessed the final “Twilight Saga” film make its debut. But just how big will the movie be? According to experts, “Breaking Dawn — Part 2” looks like it will have the most massive opening weekend for a “Twilight” movie.
Up until this point in time, it was The Twilight Saga: New Moon” that held the franchise’s biggest opening weekend with $142.8 million (interestingly enough, it’s also the worst-reviewed movie in the series). “Breaking Dawn — Part 1” comes in second with $138 million, and “Part 2” looks to break both of their records.
The experts over at Box Office Mojo expect “Breaking Dawn — Part 2” to rake in $158 million this weekend (including the early Thursday showtimes), which will have it vying with “The Dark Knight’s” $158.4 million opening for the number four spot on the list of best opening weekends. For some perspective, “The Hunger Games” debuted to $152 million, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows — Part 2” came out with $169 million and “The Avengers” has the best opening weekend with $207 million.
All told, “The Twilight Saga” has made a total of $2.5 billion worldwide, with $1.071 billion coming from the United States alone. Not too shabby for a story that started with its author, Stephenie Meyer, dreaming about a man telling his girlfriend that he’s a vampire in the middle of a meadow.
