BBC America is unveiling “Broadchurch’s” premiere online a few days before the series is set to debut in the United States. The David Tennant ITV show that took the UK by storm will air on BBC America starting on Aug. 7 at 10 p.m. ET, but the network already has episode 1 online. It can be watched in its entirety above.
This episode will only be online for a “few weeks,” BBC America says, so take advantage of this window of opportunity while you can. After all, the series has already made such an impact since its March 2013 UK premiere that FOX recently announced its own Americanized 2014 event series.
“Broadchurch” tells the story of a detective (played by Tennant) who comes to a small coastal town called Broadchurch to investigate the murder of a young boy. Olivia Coleman plays his local partner and “Doctor Who” alum Arthur Darvill plays the town priest. And before you start saying, “This sounds a lot like ‘The Killing’s’ premise,” it’s already been said.
“It’s [showrunner] Chris [Chibnall]‘ story, with huge influences from actual events that happened in the media and in Britain. The Danish version [of ‘The Killing’] was also influential,” star Jodie Whittaker said recently at the TCA press tour. “But I just think if this had had a dot, dot, dot at the end, it cheats the audience.”
