Spoilers for “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” are contained in this article.
For anyone who knows even the slightest bit about the “Captain America” comic books, it’s not much of a secret that Sebastian Stan‘s “Captain America: The First Avenger” character Bucky gets brought back in “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” as the titular Winter Soldier. His journey getting to that point might be kept under wraps, but ever since Stan’s involvement in the movie was revealed, his character’s general story arc was known.
During an interview with Zap2it at San Diego Comic-Con, Stan opened up about what he thinks fans should find intriguing about the Winter Soldier’s storyline. He says it’s not Bucky’s not-so-secret transformation that should get people interested, but how Captain America responds to it.
“The comic books are right out there. A lot of people know the comic books, and we live in a world where apparently nobody wants any mystery. We just want to know everything. I suppose it’s no mystery,” he says. “The mystery is for Captain America. It’s for him, you’ve got to look it like he doesn’t understand, he’s not piecing it together. But I hope the fans are happy with how we’ve taken the storylines from the comic books and brought them to the movie screen.”
“Captain America: The Winter Soldier” is due in theaters on April 4, 2014. Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, it stars Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Stan, Samuel L. Jackson, Cobie Smulders, Emily VanCamp, Anthony Mackie, Frank Grillo and Robert Redford.
