After a six-year hiatus, the mega-hit kids’ book series “Captain Underpants” is coming out of retirement, reports the Associated Press.
On Thursday (Jan. 12), the series’ publisher, Scholastic Inc., announced that e-book versions of two graphic novel spinoffs from the series — “The Adventures of Super Diaper Baby” and “Super Diaper Baby 2” — will hit digital shelves at the end of January.
And that’s not all: Two new “Captain Underpants” books are also in the works. “Captain Underpants and the Terrifying Return of Tippy Tinkletrousers” will be released in August, followed by “Captain Underpants and the Revolting Revenge of the Radioactive Robo-Boxers” in January 2013.
Will the series catch fire again now that its original audience is nearly a decade older? We’re guessing both author Dav Pilkey and Scholastic are hoping a new generation of readers will get into “Captain Underpants.”
The series chronicles the adventures of two 4th grade kids — George Beard and Harold Hutchins — who accidentally hypnotize their school principal, turning him into the titular superhero.
