Carly Rae Jepsen has made quite an impact on our pop culture for asking the world to call her, maybe. Billboard has announced that she’s receiving the magazine’s “Rising Star” award for her success over the past year.
That means she’ll be joining Billboard’s Woman of the Year, Katy Perry, at the magazine’s seventh Women in Music event, which is being held on Nov. 30 at Capitale in New York City. It is there that she’ll be given the her award. Jepsen is following in the footsteps of previous “Rising Star” recipients like Nicki Minaj, Lady Gaga and Colbie Caillat.
“As a singer-songwriter having grown up listening to and being influenced by countless female artists, I am truly honored to be recognized by Billboard with this award,” Jepsen says in a statement. “I hope to inspire others through my music the way those artists have inspired me.”
