Wilson Phillips singer Carnie Wilson had gastric bypass surgery in 1999 and was quite successful, after tipping the scales at over 300 lbs. But her weight crept back up, especially after having two baby girls. In fact she re-gained 2/3 of the weight she had lost. So she has now had lap band surgery, which means she was implanted with an inflatable plastic device that constricts the stomach to about the size of an egg.
Carnie tells “Today,” “I needed to take action, I needed to help myself again. I’m not ashamed to talk about this in public … The message isn’t go out and get a surgery today … I’ve learned I’ve got to take care of my health. This is about health. It’s not about what I look like, what the scale says. This is about health.”
“I’m not eating sugar, I’m not eating flour. I’m teaching my children these are the habits. I’m laying the groundwork for myself, for my future,” says Wilson. “We’re all a work in progress. We’re not perfect. Don’t be ashamed or afraid to ask for help.”
