Legendary radio DJ and “Scooby-Doo” voice actor Casey Kasem has been located, three days after his grown children petitioned a judge to look into their father’s whereabouts and hours after they filed a missing persons report.
On Monday (May 12), a judge in the Los Angeles area ordered a court investigation to locate Kasem, as his wife Jean Kasem (“Cheers”) had allegedly removed him from the country, according to a statement from her lawyer.
However, Kasem has been found in Washington state by the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Department. CNN reports that sheriff’s deputies found the Kasems at an address given to them by California Adult Protective Services. At said address, the deputies report the couple said they were on vacation. After determining Kasem was not in distress, the deputies left.
Deraney PR, the publicist for Kasem’s daughter Kerri, tweets, “We are confirming that Casey Kasem has been found. The family has grave
concerns about his health and look forward to bringing him home.”
The account adds a statement from Kerri: “We are grateful to the local authorities
for finding my Dad. We are one step closer to bringing him home.”
Kasem’s children have been battling with his wife Jean, their stepmother, over Kasem’s care since last fall, when they went public about Jean refusing to let them see their ailing father, who suffers from Lewy Body Disease (which had previously been misdiagnosed as advanced Parkinson’s, according to Kerri’s court documents).
The judge has scheduled a hearing for June 20 to check on Kasem’s care and well-being. Kerri has been named temporary conservator until the hearing.
