Whether they admit it or not, every showrunner worries about the “Moonlighting” curse — when a show completely fizzles after its will-they-or-won’t-they leads finally hook up following years of emotional foreplay.
But that won’t happen with “Castle.” We’ve seen the Season 5 premiere and can guarantee that Castle and Beckett’s chemistry is more intense than ever — and it’s not just because of actors Stana Katic and Nathan Fillion‘s insane, sizzling-hot chemistry.
In addition to creator Andrew Marlowe‘s “genius,” “Castle’s” successful transition from partners to lovers owes a huge debt to its new writers, says co-star Tamala Jones (who plays medical examiner Lanie Parish).
“I was sad to see some of our writers go because we’re all family,” she tells Zap2it, “but Andrew is a genius. You may not agree with his methods — we didn’t want to see the writers go — but the new writers (we still have some of the original writers as well) bring a new twist.
“I think that’s where other shows mess up — they don’t add that extra fizz in there to help the show without killing [it],” observes Jones. “And I do not believe in my heart of hearts that [Castle and Beckett’s romance] is going to ruin it, because the way they have written it is amazing…They’re not giving it all away at once.
“I don’t think it’ll fizz out at all,” she concludes. “I think it’ll leave [viewers] wanting more and more and more.”
You saw the Season 4 finale and the previews for Season 5, so what do you think? Will Castle and Beckett’s romance ruin the show, or make “Castle” better than ever?
