Olympic swimming gold medalist Summer Sanders is one of eight celebrity chef-testants taking part in Rachael Ray vs. Guy Fieri‘s “Celebrity Cook-Off,” which debuts Sunday night, Jan. 1, at 9 p.m. ET on the Food Network.
Summer’s Quick Bite: “I like the adrenaline in the kitchen – maybe that’s my sporty side coming out.”
Summer’s Tale from the Trenches:
“We shared everything in the kitchen, so we were constantly jogging between our stations and the pantry to get ingredients. One time, I had to run in front of Coolio’s over while he was making his pudding cake. He stopped me and asked if I could run softer because the shaking could deflate his dessert. So for the rest of the day, I delicately ran around on my tiptoes, laughing the whole time.”
Summer’s All-Star Technique:
“I lay basil leaves on top of each other in a pile, roll them up like a cigar, then slice up the bundle to make perfect strips. It’s quick and looks professional.”
Summer’s Food with Flair:
“Rach taught me how important it is to make your dishes pop, and my favorite way to do it is with a fancy butter garnish. Add one to your plate before serving and you’ve got a little something-something.”
Who was more competitive, Rachael or Guy?
“Rach was a fireball of information, and I say that because she was so fired up for us. She wanted to win.”
Summer before the show – “I cooked a lot of basic mac ‘n’ cheese for my kids.”
And now – “I look at the plate and think, ‘What color can I add to this?’ I don’t change the main recipe dramatically, but I add broccoli or spinach into the mix.”
