Charlize Theron is making her support of South Africa’s Nelson Mandela be known. The country’s former president, 94, is currently hospitzalied, and the South African actress wanted to share her well-wishes.
“Keeping Madiba in my thoughts. #NelsonMandela #Hero,” she tweets. “Madiba” is Mandela’s Xhosa clan name.
Theron was born in South Africa in 1975. She moved from the country at age 16 to pursue a modeling career, so she wasn’t there to witness Mandela’s rule as the country’s president from 1994 to 1999. It’s clear from this tweet that she still was affected by and endeared to the anti-apartheid leader.
