Decades ago, ads promoted women vacuuming in formal wear. The message was that even while doing chores — which men didn’t need to do — women were always glamorous.
Oddly, some perceive the popular band, The Saturdays, in that way.
“We were joking earlier back here in the U.K., where we are pretty well known, and we were joking [that] our young fans they think we are in ball gowns doing chores,” Mollie King, one of The Saturdays, tells Zap2it. “Like everyone else, we come home and put on jogging bottoms.”
Their fashions, ranging from a cohesive look onstage to at-home casual, have been captured on “Chasing The Saturdays” Mondays on E!
“The style of the overall group is quite unified,” King says. “We always like to look like, as the band, if someone went missing, when they were coming back in, people would know she would go with the girls.”
King, a fashionista, describes the group’s look as “quite youthful, fun, flirtatious. We all have very different body shapes, and we can work with that. Different styles of dresses suit different girls.”
Vanessa White wears a Theory electric blue leather jacket, 10 Crosby black leather skirt, Michelle Mason tank and Charlotte Olympia heels. “It is young and very fashionable,” King says. “It really suits her body shape. She likes to dress in separates.”
Of a classic red Vera Wang dress with Nicolas Kirkwood heels worn by Una Healy, King says, “This dress looks like it should be worn by Carrie Bradshaw. The flower on the side is especially Carrie flirty and sexy, but in a really sophisticated way. That is my favorite out of all of the outfits.”
Wearing a Kate Spade dress with Giuseppe Zanotti heels, where the platform picks up on the black and white theme, King says of her outfit, “It has the kind of ’60s feel to it. You know, it goes down the side and does not meet up on the lines. I love that ’60s look, the Twiggy look. It is fun having the red shoes and stand out against the monochromatic, and animal print.”
This H&M dress, paired with Casadei boots, reflects her personality. “She is a very flirtatious person,” King says. “If we need somebody to go flirt with somebody and fall in love with the band, we send Frankie [Sandford]. Those boots are very sexy. And I love that the colors are so bright and contrast each other.” It’s not over-the-top sexy because the neckline is at the collar and the 3/4 sleeves. The mid-thigh boots leave just a couple of inches from the hem, which King notes, “teases the leg in.”
“This is one of those dresses [where] as you move, it was beautiful,” King says of the Gucci dress wornby Rochelle Wiseman with Giuseppe Zanotti heels. “There is a playful element. It’s very classic and feminine and sexy as the dress moves.”
