Canada’s long-running teen drama “Degrassi: The Next Generation” has tackled plenty of serious subjects over the years, and fans in the U.S. have taken notice. Now Chaz Bono, one of Hollywood’s most visible LGBT activists, has taken notice, and dropped by the show’s Toronto set to film a cameo.
Bono, who documented his sex change in the documentary “Becoming Chaz,” will play himself in scenes with the show’s transgender character, Adam Torres (Jordan Todosey).

The episode will air in the fall, but came about after Bono met the “Degrassi” team at the Emmys in 2011. People has deets on the role, which will feature Bono as a celebrity judge at a Degrassi Battle of the Bands contest.
“Adam’s storyline on Degrassi is important to me because it means more transgender representation in the pop culture,” Bono says. “It also sends the message to trans teens that they are not alone in their struggles.”
