Chris Brown has been ordered to spend another two months in the Malibu rehab where he’s been working on changing his behavior. According to doctors there, his violent past is partially due to previously undiagnosed PTSD and bipolar disorder.
People reports that Brown “seemed disappointed by the decision to extend his rehab stay.” His probation officer acknowledged that he’s been responding well to treatment — but only recently, and would not benefit from being released too soon.
Brown’s legal troubles began when he was arrested for attacking his girlfriend, Rihanna, before the 2009 Grammy Awards. He has been on probation for various run-ins with the law since then, but a letter from his Malibu treatment facility to the court says that Brown has been learning how to control his anger.
“Our clinical team believes Mr. Brown became aggressive and acted out physically due to his untreated mental health disorder, severe sleep deprivation, inappropriate self-medicating and untreated PTSD,” the facility writes. But should he continue on his current path of recovery, he could “become the positive role model in society that we believe he truly desires to be.”
