Bill Hader is not a stranger to doing improv comedy — before his time on “Saturday Night Live,” he performed with Second City and Improv Olympic. Working with Larry David, though, is a different ballgame.
Hader co-stars with David in “Clear History,” an HBO movie premiering Saturday (Aug. 10). As with David’s show “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” there’s no real script, just an outline from which the actors build scenes.
“You sit down with him, and he just says, ‘You guys, I’m hiring you to blow up a house. Go,'” Hader tells Zap2it in the video below from Disney’s D23 Expo.
That is, in fact, a pretty good description of his character. When Nathan Flomm’s (David) old nemesis, Will Haney (Jon Hamm), threatens to disrupt the new life he’s built for himself, he enlists a couple of questionable characters named Rags (Hader) and Joe Stumpo (Michael Keaton) to help destroy Will’s house.
A couple of “Curb Your Enthusiasm” regulars have parts in “Clear History,” but for the most part the cast, including Hader, hasn’t worked much with David before. So does that mean Hader could be part of “Curb” if and when David decides to do another season? Hit play below to find out. “Clear History” airs at 9 p.m. ET Saturday on HBO.
