“Country’s Night to Rock” on television isn’t until Monday (Aug. 12), but you can have an early sample now.
Recorded in June during the annual Nashville event that gathers artists and fans, the CMA Music Festival will air again as a three-hour ABC special. Coinciding with the platinum certification they earned recently for the album “Tornado,” Little Big Town hosts the show and also performs on it, as seen here exclusively:
Nine-time Grammy winner Sheryl Crow — a friend of Little Big Town’s Kimberly Schlapman, thanks to their children attending the same play site — teams with the group in another segment mashing up her “Soak Up the Sun” with their hit “Pontoon.” Crow’s first country album, “Feels Like Home,” will be released Tuesday, Sept. 10.
Among the many other stars featured on “CMA Music Festival: Country’s Night to Rock” are Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood, spouses Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton, Brad Paisley, Keith Urban, Tim McGraw, Kelly Clarkson and Lady Antebellum.
And wait, there’s more: Also on board are Jason Aldean, Luke Bryan, Dierks Bentley, Hunter Hayes, Zac Brown Band, the Band Perry, Jake Owen, Darius Rucker, Kellie Pickler and Kacey Musgraves.
Crow isn’t the only performer who moves into the country realm for the show. Kid Rock, Lenny Kravitz and Jason Mraz will demonstrate that when it comes to making melodies, just as country stars can — and now often do — cross over into pop, anyone else can go country.
