Despite buzz that the annual Comic-Con International fan convention could be moving, it’s staying put for now.
Comic-Con is committed to taking place in San Diego through 2015, it was announced Thursday (Sept. 30). Its contract was set to expire in 2012.
Because of the con’s exponential growth, many have seen the event as too big for the confines of the San Diego Convention Center. In fact, many of the convention’s spotlight panels have overflowed to nearby hotels.
Facebook fan pages have popped up to possibly move the convention north to bigger grounds in either Los Angeles, Anaheim or Las Vegas. In the end, the sentimental favorite, San Diego won out. The countless local businesses — including restaurants, hotels, pedicabs and other tourist attractions are all breathing a sigh of relief.
